RABAT, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan Security Services, acting in coordination with its Spanish counterpart, on Wednesday busted a terrorist cell with suspected links to the Islamic State (IS) group operating in both countries, Morocco's Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations said in a statement.
The joint operation led to the arrest of two individuals in the city of Tangier, northern Morocco, while Spanish authorities arrested the cell's leader in the city of Mallorca, it added.
Initial investigations revealed that those arrested in Morocco were involved in providing financial and logistical support to fighters in the sub-Saharan Sahel region and in Somalia.
The cell leader is suspected of plotting a terrorist attack in Spain, the statement said. The two suspects detained in Tangier have been placed in police custody pending further investigation.
Security cooperation between Morocco and Spain has led to the dismantling of more than 30 terror cells since 2014 in both countries, the statement said. ■
