MOSCOW, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday that the events in the Middle East are a direct result of the West's attempts to preserve the remnants of its dominance through force, regardless of any previously signed and ratified obligations under international law.
Speaking at a fund board meeting in Moscow, Lavrov said U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran would disrupt global trade and pose threats to global energy security as well as international transport and business communications.
Lavrov added that Russia is sharing its assessment of the current situation with Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Moscow believes that the path of negotiations, unity and balancing interests is the one that serves the interests of the Middle East, he said. ■
