SEOUL, March 24 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's presidential office on Tuesday criticized the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s designation of South Korea as "the most hostile state," saying such hostile rhetoric does nothing to promote peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.

The office stressed that lasting peace and prosperity cannot be achieved through confrontation, but through dialogue and cooperation, adding that the South Korean government will continue to pursue a long-term policy of peaceful coexistence.

According to the DPRK's official Korean Central News Agency, during a speech Monday at the Supreme People's Assembly, DPRK top leader Kim Jong Un said the DPRK will categorically reject, ignore and treat South Korea with the most explicit words and actions "by officially regarding it as the most hostile state."
