YANGON, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has designated a new marine national park in Ngaputaw township of Ayeyarwady region, the state-owned daily The Mirror reported on Tuesday.
Myanmar's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation designated an area of 12,114.60 acres as the Thameehla Island Marine National Park, effective from March 17, 2026, according to the report.
The designation aims to protect local coastal and marine ecosystems, natural resources, and biodiversity, the report said.
This is the fourth marine national park in Myanmar, it added. ■
