BUENOS AIRES, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Second-half goals from Tomas Aranda and Adam Bareiro gave Boca Juniors a 2-0 home win over Instituto Cordoba in Argentina's Apertura tournament on Sunday.
Aranda opened the scoring in the 51st minute at La Bombonera when he cut inside before drilling a low shot that beat goalkeeper Manuel Roffo at his far post.
The hosts doubled their advantage five minutes later through Bareiro, who pounced on a loose ball to fire in from just outside the six-yard box.
Instituto had several chances to reduce the deficit but was denied by a series of smart saves from Boca goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin.
Boca is now sixth in Group A with 17 points, six ahead of 12th-placed Instituto.
In Group B, Gonzalo Montiel and Maximiliano Salas scored second-half goals as River Plate cruised to a 2-0 away win over Estudiantes Rio Cuarto.
The result lifted River to second in the 15-team group with 20 points, while Estudiantes Rio Cuarto remains last with four points. ■
