JERUSALEM/BEIRUT, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Israeli warplanes struck Qasmiyeh Bridge on the Litani River in southern Lebanon on Sunday, Lebanon's National News Agency reported, as Israel launched a new wave of airstrikes across the region.

The Israeli military confirmed the strikes, saying they targeted Hezbollah positions. Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to "immediately" destroy all bridges over the Litani River used by the group.

The attacks came after a Hezbollah rocket fired earlier Sunday killed an Israeli man near the Israel-Lebanon border, the first civilian death from fire out of Lebanon since the start of recent U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. Two Israeli soldiers were killed in Lebanon earlier this month.

Military spokesperson Avichay Adraee also urged residents on social media platform X to evacuate the area and move north of the Zahrani River, warning of imminent strikes on Qasmiyeh Bridge, a major crossing on Lebanon's largest river near the coast.
