VIENTIANE, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Party and state leaders of Laos gathered on Sunday to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony honoring the nation's revolutionary legacy.

The ceremony was led by Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the LPRP Central Committee and Lao president, alongside senior officials, Lao News Agency reported on Sunday.

Floral tributes were placed at the Unknown Soldiers Monument to honor fallen heroes, and flower baskets were laid before the statue of former President Kaysone Phomvihane at the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum, paying tribute to his enduring leadership.

The ceremony reflected gratitude toward generations of Lao revolutionaries whose sacrifices secured national liberation and paved the way for the historic proclamation of independence on Dec. 2, 1975, establishing the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Officials highlighted that the event also commemorated Kaysone Phomvihane, widely regarded as a national hero. His dedication to independence, ethnic unity, and national development continues to inspire Laos' progress.

The anniversary reaffirmed the LPRP's commitment to preserving its revolutionary heritage while guiding the nation's future development.

The LPRP was established on March 22, 1955.
