BAGHDAD, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella body for Iraq's pro-Iranian militias, said on Sunday it had carried out 21 operations against "occupation bases" in Iraq and the region over the past 24 hours.

In a statement, the group said that the operations involved "dozens of missiles and drones," without providing further details on specific targets or casualties.

The group has claimed hundreds of such attacks over the past few days.

Meanwhile, an Iraqi Interior Ministry source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua that several drone attacks targeted Victoria Base at Baghdad International Airport overnight, most of which were intercepted by air defense systems.

The attacks came amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran starting on Feb. 28, to which Iran and its regional allies have responded with attacks on Israeli and U.S. interests across the Middle East.
