TASHKENT, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's Central Bank decided Wednesday to keep the key interest rate unchanged at 14 percent per annum.
Inflation has accelerated since the beginning of this year, with future expectations elevated, the bank said in its announcement.
Highlighting rising geopolitical tensions generating upward risks to prices, the bank noted that disruptions in global supply chains may lead to increases in prices for energy resources and food products.
Taking all factors into consideration, the bank deemed it necessary to persist with a tight monetary policy to maintain price stability and curb inflation.
"The Central Bank's monetary policy will remain focused on reducing inflation to the 5 percent medium-term target, ensuring macroeconomic stability, and preserving the purchasing power of the population," it said. ■
