CBA Roundup: Shanghai edges Qingdao for seventh straight win

BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The Shanghai Sharks extended their winning streak to seven games with an 84-80 home victory over the Qingdao Eagles in the 2025-2026 Chinese Basketball Association regular season on Monday.

Qingdao started the game with high pressure and finished the first quarter with a 27-16 lead. Shanghai tied the game 44-44 late in the second quarter, but Quinndary Weatherspoon's three-pointer gave the visitors a five-point halftime lead.

The two teams put up an even more heated battle in the second-half. Shanghai pulled ahead 76-70 midway through the fourth quarter before Qingdao cut the deficit to one point with two minutes left. Kenneth Lofton Jr. secured the victory for Shanghai by scoring six points in a row.

Lofton had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assist, Whiteside added a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Qingdao's Jordan Mickey scored a game-high 24 points and 14 rebounds.

Shanghai sits top of the table with 22-4 record, followed by the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, who smashed the Ningbo Rockets 87-72.

The Beijing Ducks defeated the Tianjin Pioneers 88-75 as star center Zhou Qi had 23 points and 13 rebounds. Former NBA player JaVale McGee also laid on 9 points and 10 rebounds for Beijing.

In other action, the Fujian Sturgeons beat the Nanjing Monkey Kings 95-81, the Zhejiang Lions defeated the Shandong Heroes 96-83, the Shenzhen Aviators edged the Guangzhou Loong Lions 97-96, and the Jiangsu Dragons prevailed the Sichuan Blue Whales 91-86.
