GAZA, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed by an Israeli airstrike that targeted a police vehicle near the entrance to the town of Al-Zawayda in central Gaza, Gaza's interior authorities said Sunday.

Local sources reported that an Israeli drone targeted the police vehicle belonging to the Hamas-run interior authorities. Palestinian medical sources told Xinhua the airstrike also wounded several bystanders.

Also on Sunday, an Israeli drone fired at least one missile at a gathering of Palestinians in the al-Sawarha area, west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, according to eyewitnesses.

Al-Awda Hospital in the camp said the strike killed a man, his wife, and their son.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on either strike.

Gaza-based health authorities reported in its daily update on Sunday that the bodies of five people and eight wounded individuals arrived at Gaza Strip hospitals in the past 24 hours.

This has brought the death toll since the ceasefire went into effect in October 2025 to 663, with 1,762 wounded, and raised the total number of casualties since Oct. 7, 2023, to 72,239 dead and 171,861 wounded, the authorities said.
