TEHERAN, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Friday that his administration does not propose and pursue any policy without coordination with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
Pezeshkian made the remarks in a message to praise Iran's people for their "epic" turnout in the International Quds Day rallies held across the country earlier in the day, according to official news agency IRNA.
The president said that he considered himself duty-bound to fully comply with the guidelines of the country's leadership in accordance with the religious, legal, and national criteria.
"This obedience has been and will be one of the principles and foundations of national solidarity and the basis for the 14th (Iranian) government's actions," he stressed.
Pezeshkian stated that his administration's most important concerns are to make the necessary preparations for the Iranian armed forces' comprehensive defense against the U.S. and Israeli attacks and organize the people's affairs.
On Feb. 28, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing Iran's then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with senior military commanders and civilians. Iran responded by launching waves of missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and U.S. bases and assets in the Middle East.
Iran's Assembly of Experts on Sunday appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the country's third supreme leader, succeeding his father. ■
