JAKARTA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The 12th Summit of the Developing Eight (D-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation has been postponed due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, an Indonesian foreign ministry official said Friday.

The summit was originally scheduled for April 13 to 15 in Jakarta.

Tri Tharyat, director general of the multilateral cooperation department at the Indonesian foreign ministry, said no new date has been set for the summit.

Founded in 1997, the D-8 originally comprised eight major Muslim developing countries: Egypt, Türkiye, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Bangladesh.

Azerbaijan joined the organization as a new member at the 11th summit held in Egypt in 2024.
