KAMPALA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Three Ugandan athletes will compete in the Seoul Marathon scheduled for March 15 in Seoul, South Korea.
Isaac Masai, fresh from winning the National Mountain Running Championships in Kapchorwa District earlier this month, will represent Uganda alongside Dillion Kipyeko and Ezekiel Chepchorom.
Dominic Otuchet, president of Athletics Uganda, confirmed to Xinhua on Friday that the trio will participate in the race. "They have trained well and we expect good results from them," said Otuchet.
Otuchet said the federation is encouraging more Ugandan athletes to compete in races around the world in order to gain exposure and experience. "It is only by giving the athletes opportunities to compete in many International races so that they get experience and improve," explained Otuchet.
Masai told Xinhua before the team departed on Friday morning that he is ready for the marathon after thorough preparations. "I know I will face tough competition from other runners, but I have prepared well and improved on my time," added Masai. ■
