BUENOS AIRES, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Belgrano climbed to the top of Group B in Argentina's Apertura tournament on Thursday with a 1-0 away win over Estudiantes Rio Cuarto.
Attacking midfielder Francisco Gonzalez broke the deadlock just before the hour when he capitalized on a poor clearance from goalkeeper Agustin Lastra to fire a first-time effort into an empty net.
The hosts controlled 55% of possession but lacked incisiveness in attack as Belgrano secured its fifth win of the campaign. The Cordoba-based side now has 18 points, one ahead of second-placed Independiente Rivadavia.
Estudiantes Rio Cuarto is last in the 15-team group with four points.
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Thursday, Talleres won 2-0 at home to Instituto, Deportivo Riestra was held to a goalless home draw by Gimnasia Mendoza and Central Cordoba drew 1-1 at Defensa y Justicia. ■
