BANGKOK, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The Thai government is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East and has intensified efforts to assist foreign tourists impacted by the regional unrest, a spokesperson said on Thursday.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure tourist safety and maintain confidence in Thailand's tourism sector, said deputy government spokesperson Airin Phanrit.
Airin said between Feb. 28 and March 10, a total of 4,525 foreign tourists were successfully facilitated and assisted through channels, including tourist assistance centers stationed at major airports, the tourism crisis management center hotline, and provincial tourism and sports offices.
Authorities are partnering with hotel operators to offer discounted room rates, easing the financial burden for affected tourists, with 74 establishments across nine provinces currently participating, she said in a statement.
"Thailand reaffirms its readiness and capability to safeguard all tourists," said the spokesperson, adding that crisis management standards have been elevated to ensure confidence and a positive experience for global visitors. ■
