BUENOS AIRES, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Manuel Panaro and Nicolas Barros Schelotto scored first-half goals as Gimnasia La Plata rose to fifth in Group B of Argentina's Apertura tournament with a 2-1 win at Banfield on Wednesday.
The visitors took the lead when Panaro ran onto Augusto Max's perfectly weighted pass and fired a first-time effort into the far corner.
Barros Schelotto doubled the lead by combining with Luis Torres and curling a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Facundo Sanguinetti.
The hosts pulled a goal back through Santiago Lopez, whose long-range effort left Sanguinetti with no chance after taking a deflection.
The result leaves Gimnasia with 14 points from nine outings, three behind group leader Independiente Rivadavia. Banfield is 10th in the 15-team group with 10 points.
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Wednesday, Argentinos Juniors was held to a goalless home draw by Rosario Central. ■
