BANGKOK, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Cabinet has mandated urgent measures requiring government agencies to work from home, along with suspending overseas visits, as part of a response to an energy squeeze brought by tensions in the Middle East.

The escalating Middle East situation has affected the world's crude oil supply and maritime transport system, resulting in an increase in energy prices in the international markets, according to Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana.

The cabinet on Tuesday urged government functions that do not concern public service delivery to work from home, so as to reduce energy consumption and enhance resource management efficiency.

It also ordered the suspension of overseas field visits and training programs, with activities conducted domestically instead.

Thailand's Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed all government agencies and state enterprises to comply with response measures to alleviate the impacts, and closely monitor global economic and energy developments to ensure timely and appropriate adjustments, Lalida said.
