JERUSALEM, March 10 (Xinhua) -- German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul visited Israel on Tuesday and said he believes the United States and Israel "are ready for a diplomatic solution."
His visit, on the 11th day of the regional conflict, marks the first diplomatic trip to Israel since its joint attack with the United States on Iran on Feb. 28 triggered a deadly regional escalation.
Wadephul expressed "very high confidence that both countries, the United States and Israel, are ready for a diplomatic solution." He made the remarks alongside his Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa'ar, and noted he has discussed the conflict and U.S. stance with Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday.
Earlier in the day, U.S. President Donald Trump told Fox News that it is still possible for Washington to negotiate with Tehran. The remarks came after Trump said Monday that the U.S.-Israeli military strikes against Iran would be over "very soon."
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Tuesday that Israel is "not done yet" with its offensive against Iran, saying the attacks have severely weakened the capabilities of the Iranian government.
Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Tuesday that the country is well-prepared to continue missile attacks against Israel and U.S. bases in the West Asia region for as long as needed. He added that he does not think resuming negotiations with the United States "would be on our agenda anymore." ■
