COLOMBO, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka Navy seized 103 kilograms of heroin and nearly 1 kilogram of cocaine from a multi-day fishing trawler intercepted in southern waters on suspicion of drug trafficking on Saturday night, the navy said on Sunday.
The haul is estimated to have a street value of about 2.8 billion rupees (about 9.3 million U.S. dollars), Deputy Defense Minister Aruna Jayasekara said after visiting the site on Sunday morning and inspecting the seized vessel and narcotics.
Jayasekara said authorities had taken six suspects into custody and would pursue legal action against those involved. ■
