PHNOM PENH, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Retail oil prices in Cambodia are on a sharp rise on Sunday amid the escalation of the Middle East conflict.
The Ministry of Commerce said in a notice that a liter of regular gasoline costs 4,400 riels (about 1.09 U.S. dollars) on Sunday, up 14.2 percent from 3,850 riels on Saturday.
Diesel goes for 5,150 riels per liter, up 33.7 percent from 3,850 riels, the notice added.
The ministry on Friday called on people to avoid stockpiling fuel, saying that storing fuel without technical standards could increase fire risks.
The appeal came after some consumers rushed to purchase fuel for stockpile in fear of oil shortages.
The Southeast Asian country totally relies on imported diesel and petroleum, as its seabed oil reserves have not been exploited yet. ■
