AMMAN/MANAMA, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Iran targeted Jordanian territory with 119 missiles and drones, with 108 of them intercepted and destroyed, since the start of the Iranian retaliatory attacks on U.S. assets in the region, Jordan's authorities said Saturday.

Speaking at a joint press briefing with Public Security Directorate spokesperson Amer Sartawi at the National Center for Security and Crisis Management, Director of Military Media Brigadier General Mustafa Hiyari said that hours after the conflict began, Iran launched attacks against several countries in the region, some of which reached Jordanian territory.

In response, Jordan's armed forces activated air defense systems to intercept the missiles and drones. Hiyari added that Jordan has also activated military and defense cooperation agreements with several countries to enhance air coverage and protect the kingdom's airspace.

Also on Saturday, Bahrain announced that 86 missiles and 148 drones targeting the kingdom have been intercepted and destroyed since the start of the attacks from Iran, the Bahrain News Agency reported.

The United States and Israel launched massive attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, killing Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, multiple senior military commanders and hundreds of civilians. Iran has responded with multiple waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. assets across the region.
