SYDNEY, March 7 (Xinhua) -- One teenager died and two others were airlifted to hospital after a car crashed into a tree northeast of Sydney on Friday night.
A police statement on Saturday said that emergency services were called to reports of the collision near the coastal town of Crescent Head, 340 km northeast of Sydney in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW), at around 9:20 p.m. local time on Friday.
Ambulance paramedics arrived and treated a 19-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle, but she died at the scene.
The 18-year-old female driver and another passenger, a 17-year-old girl, were both airlifted to hospital in serious but stable conditions.
The NSW Police Force said that officers established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to the latest data, as of Thursday, there had been 62 deaths in incidents on NSW roads in 2026, up from 44 deaths at the same time in 2025. ■
