TEHRAN/BEIRUT, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday of tailoring his message to different audiences, while Iran's embassy in Lebanon rejected recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump about Tehran's leadership.
Writing on social media platform X, Pezeshkian said Netanyahu presents "three frames: To Iranians, he speaks of 'freedom.' To Americans, he warns of Iran's 'nuclear threat.' To his Zionist audience, he calls Iranians 'Amaleks.'" Amalek refers to a nation depicted in the Hebrew Bible as an enemy of the Israelites.
Iran's embassy in Lebanon also dismissed what it termed Trump's "delusional claims" in a social media statement, saying: "You will take the wish of Iran's surrender with you to the grave."
The remarks follow U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets that began on Feb. 28. Tehran says the strikes killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, family members, senior military commanders and civilians. Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks on Israeli and U.S. positions in the region.
The escalation has heightened instability across the Middle East, with Iran-aligned groups mobilizing in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen. Diplomatic efforts to contain the violence have been limited. ■
