SARAJEVO, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) announced on Thursday that it has raised security measures to a higher level as a preventive step following the escalation of conflict in the Middle East.
According to the ministry, the measures include an increased presence of security forces near facilities that could potentially become targets.
The ministry said police and security agencies across the country intensified their activities immediately after receiving information about the start of attacks on Iran and the subsequent escalation of tensions in the region.
"These are standard preventive activities carried out by police and security agencies in similar situations, aimed at monitoring potential security challenges in a timely manner and preserving the stability and safety of citizens," the ministry said in a statement.
Officials emphasized that, based on currently available information, there are no indications of any direct security threat to BiH.
The additional precautionary measures mainly involve enhanced monitoring of potentially sensitive locations to prevent possible incidents. Authorities noted that the measures do not necessarily mean a visible increase of police presence on the streets or the introduction of a state of emergency.
On Saturday, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as well as members of his family, high-ranking military commanders, and civilians, according to Iranian officials. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. assets across the Middle East. ■
