GABORONE, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The 17th batch of the Chinese medical team in Botswana on Friday held a free medical outreach event at the University of Botswana (UB) to promote health education and provide basic medical consultations for students.
The event was co-organized by the medical team, the Confucius Institute at the UB and the Chinese Enterprises Association in Botswana.
Luo Jinying, head of the Gaborone branch of the Chinese medical team, said at the event that the outreach aimed not only to provide medical services but also to raise health awareness among the public.
Participants received consultations from Chinese medical team specialists in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, acupuncture, radiology and nursing, while the team also provided basic health checks, including blood pressure and blood glucose tests.
Noting that 2026 marks the 45th anniversary of China sending medical teams to Botswana, and it has also been designated the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, she said the event helps promote cultural exchange and friendship between the two countries.
Pu Durong, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at UB, said that the activity offered students a valuable opportunity to consult professional doctors from the Chinese medical team. ■
