SAO PAULO, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Brazil registered the lowest food inflation on record in 2025, Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming Paulo Teixeira said Thursday.
According to data cited by the minister, inflation for food consumed at home fell from 8.23 percent in 2024 to 1.43 percent in 2025.
"We had the lowest food inflation on record in a year ... and that is good news for Brazilian consumers because they are buying food at a cheaper price and families are eating better," Teixeira said in an interview on state TV.
Teixeira attributed the drop to a series of measures adopted by the government, including eliminating import taxes on staple products such as coffee, olive oil, sugar, corn, pasta and meat.
Brazil's official inflation rate, measured by the national Broad Consumer Price Index, registered 4.26 percent in 2025. ■
