BAGHDAD, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella body for Iraq's pro-Iranian militias, announced on Friday that its fighters had carried out 27 strikes against "enemy bases" in Iraq and the region over the past 24 hours.

The group said in a statement that the operations involved "dozens of drones and missiles," without providing further details regarding specific targets or casualties.

Separately, a pro-Iran group calling itself the "Guardians of Blood," affiliated with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, claimed responsibility for launching drone attacks "targeting a vital objective in Jordan," in retaliation for the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

The two groups has claimed a number of such attacks over the past few days.

The attacks came amid heightened tensions following the joint U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran on Saturday, to which Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on Israel and U.S. assets across the Middle East.
