JERUSALEM, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military announced early Friday that it had launched a "broad-scale" wave of airstrikes against Iranian government infrastructure in Tehran.
The announcement came hours after Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir said Israel was moving into the "next phase" of its attacks in Iran, in which it would "intensify strikes on the regime's foundations and its military capabilities."
Since the U.S.-Israeli joint operation was launched on Saturday, Israeli warplanes had carried out approximately 2,500 attacks and dropped more than 6,000 bombs, Zamir said in a televised statement.
He added that around 80 percent of Iran's aerial defense systems had been destroyed. ■
