TEHRAN, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday exchanged views with his Russian and French counterparts on the latest developments in the wake of the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.

In two separate phone calls, Araghchi briefed his counterparts on attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran since Saturday, according to statements released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

He said Israel and the United States have targeted Iran's residential places, schools, mosques, hospitals, rescue and services centers, and assassinated Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and many civilians, including over 175 students.

Araghchi called on all governments and the United Nations to decisively condemn the "criminal" actions by Israel and the United States, the Foreign Ministry said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov extended condolences for the deaths of Khamenei, senior military commanders and civilians, stressing that the attacks on Iran are in violation of the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter and will have "very heavy" consequences for the stability and security of the region and the entire world.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said his country maintains that the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran are in contradiction with international law, expressing hope that calm would be restored to the region as soon as possible.

On Saturday morning, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and several other Iranian cities. Iran responded through several waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. bases in the Middle East.
