ABU DHABI/MANAMA, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Six people were injured in Abu Dhabi on Thursday when debris from drones intercepted by air defense systems fell in an industrial area, authorities said, as a U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran entered its sixth day.
The debris landed at two locations in the Industrial City, causing minor to moderate injuries to Pakistani and Nepali nationals, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said in a statement.
The UAE capital has been on heightened alert since the joint military operation began, triggering a sharp escalation across the Middle East with waves of missile exchanges and mounting casualties.
Bahrain's Defence Force said on Thursday its air defense systems had destroyed 75 missiles and 123 drones since Iranian attacks began, the state news agency reported.
The BDF said the use of ballistic missiles and drones to target civilian facilities "constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter," adding that such attacks posed "a direct threat to regional peace and security."
On Wednesday, the UAE said its air defense systems had detected 189 ballistic missiles, eight cruise missiles and 941 drones launched toward the country since Saturday.
UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi reaffirmed the country's "balanced approach" in confronting regional conflicts, saying the UAE "does not seek to widen the scope of confrontation." ■
