NAIROBI, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Kenya has sufficient petroleum products to cushion the country from any potential supply disruptions due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, from where its petroleum product supplies are sourced, a senior official said on Tuesday.
Opiyo Wandayi, cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, said in a statement that Kenya currently has enough fuel stocks to meet both domestic demand and regional obligations.
"We have scheduled imports for delivery up to the end of April 2026, and therefore, as it stands, we are assured of security of supply," said Wandayi.
He said the government is closely monitoring the evolving situation and engaging with its government-to-government suppliers for contingency planning.
The statement came amid concerns that escalating tensions in the Middle East may disrupt global petroleum supply routes, particularly shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
"We wish to assure the public and all stakeholders that the ministry remains alert and shall continue taking necessary actions to ensure there is an uninterrupted supply," he added. ■
