TEHRAN, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani stressed on Monday that the country will not negotiate with the United States.
Larijani made the remarks in a post on X in response to a Wall Street Journal report, claiming that he is seeking to return to the negotiating table with the United States.
The United States and Israel on Saturday morning launched joint attacks on Iran's capital of Tehran and several other cities, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with several others, including some of the leader's family members, high-ranking military commanders and civilians.
In a separate post, Larijani said U.S. President Donald Trump had plunged the region into chaos with his "false hopes" and is now worried about more casualties among U.S. forces.
"With his delusional actions, Trump turned his self-made slogan of 'America First' into 'Israel First' and sacrificed U.S. soldiers for Israel's power-seeking," Larijani said.
"Today, the Iranian nation is defending itself. Iran's armed forces did not initiate the invasion," he added.
In response to the Israeli-U.S. attacks, Iran has launched several waves of missile and drone attacks against Israel and U.S. bases in the region.
The U.S. Central Command said Sunday that three U.S. service members were killed and five others seriously wounded during its military operation against Iran. ■
