BAKU, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister and foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, discussed the recent escalation of hostilities in the Middle East during a phone conversation on Sunday.
Both sides expressed profound concern over the unfolding situation in the region and underlined the grave risks that the escalation poses to regional stability and international peace, according to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
They stressed the urgent need for strict compliance with international law and reaffirmed that the conflict must be resolved through dialogue and political means.
The safety of non-combatants and civilian infrastructure must be treated as a priority, they stressed.
Bayramov extended his condolences over the deaths and injuries of civilians in the escalation. ■
