BAKU, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The Azerbaijani and Iranian foreign ministers discussed the military escalation in Iran and its regional implications during a phone call on Sunday.
According to a press release from Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi updated his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov on current developments on the ground and measures taken in response to the evolving situation.
Bayramov expressed serious concern over the sharp deterioration of the security situation in the region and extended condolences over the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the loss of innocent civilian lives.
The Azerbaijani minister stressed the importance of an early cessation of hostilities, stating that the crisis should be resolved exclusively through dialogue and diplomatic means in accordance with international law. ■
