CAIRO, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Egypt on Saturday said it has raised its state of maximum alert at all Egyptian airports in anticipation of receiving transit aircraft that may be forced to divert their flight paths due to regional developments.
The Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement that it is prepared to provide all necessary facilities and comfort for passengers whose travel may be affected by these disruptions.
It confirmed that Egyptian airspace remains fully operational and is at the highest state of readiness to accommodate any potential diversions of flight paths.
The ministry urged travelers to review their bookings with their respective airlines to confirm the status of their flights and any modifications that may arise.
Multiple countries in the Middle East closed or restricted their airspace on Saturday, and major airlines globally canceled flights to the region, as a new wave of conflict erupted following a U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran.
The disruptions followed the launch of "major combat operations" against Iran by the United States and Israel on Saturday, which plunged the war-torn region into a new round of violent conflict. ■
