SAN JOSE, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Argentine Fernando Batista has been appointed manager of Costa Rica's national team as it prepares for the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifying cycle, the country's football federation said on Saturday.
The 55-year-old replaces Miguel Herrera, who was sacked in November 2025 after the team's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
"Known for his development-oriented profile and his experience with national teams, he will bring his international experience and strategic vision," the federation said in a statement.
Batista had been out of work since parting ways with Venezuela's national team in September 2025.
He is scheduled to make his debut as Costa Rica boss in a March 27 friendly against Jordan. ■
