CAIRO, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and U.S. president's special envoy Steve Witkoff discussed the latest developments of the indirect talks between the United States and Iran during a phone call on Friday.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo's support for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving outstanding issues through negotiations.
He stressed Egypt's commitment to continuing the negotiation path and avoiding escalation in the region, emphasizing the importance of reaching compromises that serve the interests of all parties.
The call followed the third round of indirect U.S.-Iran talks in Geneva on Thursday, which mediator Oman described as making "significant progress." Yet the negotiations ended without any agreement as fundamental issues remain unresolved.
Tensions remain high in the region as the United States has deployed a military buildup near Iran. Washington has repeatedly warned of possible military attacks on Iran, while Tehran has vowed to retaliate against U.S. military facilities in the region if attacked. ■
