TEHRAN, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call and discussed the latest round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington held in Geneva, Iran's Foreign Ministry said Friday.
The two sides reviewed developments in the Iran-U.S. nuclear negotiations and broader regional issues. Araghchi briefed Abdelatty on progress in the talks, specifically Thursday's third round, and underscored Tehran's commitment to diplomacy.
Araghchi said success depends on "seriousness and realism" from the U.S. and warned against "miscalculations or excessive demands."
The renewed diplomatic efforts, which included earlier rounds in Muscat and Geneva this month, come amid heightened regional tensions and a U.S. military buildup in the Middle East.
In a post on the social media platform X early Friday, Araghchi described the third round as the "most intense" to date, saying "further progress" has been made. He said both sides agreed to continue detailed discussions on key issues, including sanctions relief and nuclear steps.
Separately, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said on Friday Abdelatty held phone talks separately with Araghchi and Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency. During the talks, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for diplomatic efforts and stressed the need for compromise to avoid further military escalation.
Also on Friday, Araghchi urged Afghanistan and Pakistan to resolve their differences through dialogue following border clashes Thursday. In a post on X, he expressed Iran's readiness to assist in mediation efforts to promote cooperation between its eastern neighbors. ■
