JERUSALEM, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military said it struck eight Hezbollah military compounds in eastern Lebanon on Thursday, targeting sites used by the group's elite Radwan Force in the Baalbek area.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that the compounds were used to store weapons, including firearms and rockets, and to train fighters for potential attacks on Israeli troops and civilians.
Accusing Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire agreement, the IDF said it "will not allow Hezbollah to expand its capabilities and rearm itself."
Meanwhile, Lebanon's official National News Agency reported a series of airstrikes in the Bekaa Valley, saying the raids caused loud explosions across surrounding areas and were accompanied by low-altitude flights by Israeli warplanes.
There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah.
A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024. Despite the agreement, Israel has continued to carry out occasional strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are aimed at eliminating Hezbollah "threats." ■
