SYDNEY, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Three people, including two teenage girls, have been hospitalized after they were struck by lightning in Western Australia (WA) on Thursday.

Ambulance paramedics were called to reports that a man aged in his 70s had been struck by lightning in the northern suburbs of the WA capital of Perth shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital in a serious but non-life-threatening condition.

A short time later, paramedics were called to a school in Perth's outer east around 10:10 a.m. to treat two teenage girls who were struck by lightning.

Both girls suffered injuries not considered life-threatening and were taken to separate hospitals for treatment.

The lightning storm on Thursday morning caused the closure of several train lines across Perth and a blackout that affected around 3,000 homes.
