YANGON, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) has approved 17 new investment projects, the state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Thursday.

At its meeting on Wednesday in Nay Pyi Taw, the MIC approved two new foreign investments and 15 local investment projects, the report said.

Total investment is valued at 7.64 million U.S. dollars and over 557.91 billion kyats (about 0.27 billion U.S. dollars), and the projects are expected to create 2,449 jobs, it said.

The approved projects include EV motorcycle and automobile assembly, hotel and tourism services, construction, oil and natural gas, livestock breeding, manufacturing of agricultural input goods, and construction of housing and garment facilities, it added.

By the end of January 2026, investors from 53 countries had invested in Myanmar, with Singapore, China and Thailand remaining the largest sources of foreign direct investment, the report said.

The MIC oversees and approves investment project proposals from local and foreign investors, and provides services to existing investors under the Myanmar Investment Law, it said.
