"Professor Summers has announced that he will retire from his academic and faculty appointments at Harvard at the end of this academic year and will remain on leave until that time," Newton said.

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Harvard University confirmed Wednesday that former Harvard President Lawrence H. Summers will resign from teaching following a university review of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

"In connection with the ongoing review by the University of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein that were recently released by the government, Harvard Kennedy School Dean Jeremy Weinstein has accepted Professor Lawrence H. Summers' resignation from his leadership position as co-director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government," Harvard spokesperson Jason Newton said in a statement.

"Professor Summers has announced that he will retire from his academic and faculty appointments at Harvard at the end of this academic year and will remain on leave until that time," Newton said.

Summers served as Harvard president from 2001 to 2006 and previously held senior government positions, including U.S. Treasury Secretary and Director of the National Economic Council.

Harvard launched a review after documents of years of email correspondence between Summers and Epstein were released in 2025. Citing the released emails, U.S. media reported that Summers maintained a friendly relationship with Epstein for years and had visited his private island and traveled on his private jet.
