RIGA, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The prevalence of influenza remains high in Latvia with six recorded deaths last week, according to influenza monitoring data from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), published Wednesday.

The total number of influenza deaths this season has risen to 28, and most of the deceased were patients over 80 years of age, with chronic underlying conditions, the CDC said.

As in previous seasons, influenza is spreading mainly among children up to 14 years old. Last week, influenza incidence fell in all age groups except in people over 65 years of age, the CDC added.

Meanwhile, the rate of positive tests for COVID-19 rose to 7.5 percent last week from 5.1 percent the previous week. A total of 35 patients with coronavirus infection were admitted to hospital, and seven people with confirmed COVID-19 died last week, according to the CDC.
