PHNOM PENH, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia cracked down on a total of 272 human trafficking and sexual exploitation cases in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 37 percent, officials said on Wednesday.
Interior Ministry's Secretary of State Chou Bun Eng, who is also permanent vice-chairwoman of the National Committee for Counter Trafficking, said the authorities arrested a total of 410 suspects, including 43 foreigners, last year.
A total of 994 victims had been rescued, she said at an Anti-Human Trafficking event in Phnom Penh, adding that 209 of them were minors under the age of 18.
Human trafficking cases were linked to crimes of fraud, labor disputes, illegal work, and illegal immigration, among others.
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha said the Southeast Asian country vowed to eliminate all types of human trafficking, sexual exploitation and online scams in order to enhance the respect for human rights, dignity and social justice.
"We are highly committed to protecting the security and safety of all Cambodian people and foreigners, especially tourists, who are staying in Cambodia," he said at the event. ■
