VIENTIANE, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- In a bid to strengthen its energy sector, Laos is accelerating its transition to clean energy, aiming to achieve sustainable progress.
A national dialogue on accelerating the clean energy transition was held in Lao capital Vientiane on Tuesday, bringing together government officials and international partners to discuss opportunities and challenges in the country's shift to clean energy, according to a report from the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce on Wednesday.
The meeting focused on assessing the current state of the energy transition and identifying key challenges and priorities. It explored areas where domestic partnerships and support from development partners, including the Energy Transition Council (ETC) Rapid Response Facility, could be most effective.
Participants also discussed options for strengthening Laos' electricity grid to support greater renewable energy integration and facilitate cross-border energy trade, as well as defining the policy and regulatory framework necessary for a just energy transition.
Laos aims to boost its electricity sector by increasing renewable energy, mainly solar and wind, to 11 percent by 2030, a move to improve efficiency, sustainability and support long-term economic growth. ■
