HARARE, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe's profile in global tourism governance is set to rise as the country is expected to host major United Nations (UN) tourism events this year, the country's Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Zhemu Soda has said.

Speaking at a post-cabinet media briefing on Tuesday in Harare, Soda said the events will include the 23rd Meeting of the UN Tourism Committee on Tourism and Sustainability, the second UN Tourism Regional Congress on Women Empowerment in Tourism in Africa, and a UN workshop on tourism capacity-building.

"Hosting these meetings represents a strategic milestone for Zimbabwe in the journey toward hosting UN Tourism's International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism in 2027, an honour that underscores the country's political and diplomatic profile within the global tourism governance space," said the minister.

The participation of global tourism leaders, policymakers, development partners, sustainability experts and academia will reinforce Zimbabwe's commitment to sustainable and resilient tourism development practices, he added.

Zimbabwe is home to world-renowned attractions, including the iconic Victoria Falls and the ancient ruins of Great Zimbabwe. The tourism industry serves as a key pillar of the country's economy.
