KABUL, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have registered more than 166,000 skilled and unskilled returning migrants and shared their details with relevant government organs for job placement, the deputy spokesperson for the Afghan government announced late Tuesday.

The registration is part of broader efforts to integrate returning Afghans into the workforce and address the economic challenges they face upon repatriation, Hamdullah Fitrat posted on his X account.

Across multiple provinces, collaboration between the Ministries of Refugees and Repatriation and Labor and Social Affairs has enabled 6,141 returning migrants to access technical and vocational training programs, equipping them with marketable skills for sustainable livelihoods, according to the official.

Additionally, the profiles of 2,000 migrants have been forwarded directly to various government institutions for immediate recruitment, streamlining their entry into public sector roles, he added.

Nearly 2.9 million Afghans returned to the country in 2025, close to half of them forcibly, with 1.9 million deported from Iran, 1 million from Pakistan, and 1,953 from Tajikistan, according to a recent UNHCR report.
