SYDNEY, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Police said on Wednesday that two men have been arrested in relation to the alleged mistaken identity kidnapping and murder of a grandfather from northern Sydney.
Human remains suspected of being 85-year-old Chris Baghsarian were found by police on Tuesday, 11 days after he was kidnapped from his home in North Ryde, 11 km northwest of central Sydney.
The police force in the state of New South Wales (NSW) said that two men, aged 29 and 24, were arrested on Wednesday morning by detectives executing search warrants at two properties in northwest Sydney near the golf club where the remains were found.
Both men were taken to a nearby police station for questioning.
Police have said that Baghsarian was not the intended target of the kidnapping and was taken in a case of mistaken identity.
The remains were found on Tuesday following a major investigation into the kidnapping.
Local media reported that the intended target of the kidnapping has links to organized crime. ■
