CAIRO, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Egypt is seriously concerned over a recent dispute between Iraq and Kuwait over their maritime border, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The dispute came after Iraq recently submitted a map and geographic coordinates to the United Nations to delineate what it says are Iraqi areas in the Gulf waters -- some of which Kuwait claims infringe on its territory.
Egypt warned that the developments came at a sensitive time in the region amid grave challenges and unprecedented escalation, urging the two countries to address the dispute based on mutual understanding and good neighborliness.
Egypt reaffirmed the need to respect Kuwait's sovereignty, territorial integrity and maritime boundaries.
It further vowed readiness to provide all forms of support to the two countries to help bridge viewpoints and reach mutually agreed understandings for regional security and stability. ■
